Different Hardwood Flooring Finishes
When home owners decide to purchase and install new hardwood flooring at their house, they have the opportunity to choose two types of finishes of hardwood flooring: Unfinished hardwood floors, or Pre-finished hardwood floors.
Unfinished hardwood floors:
Unfinished hardwood flooring is type of hardwood flooring that when purchased and delivered to your house, it comes without a stain, and without any varnish. Unfinished hardwood flooring installation process is the same as pre-finished (stained by manufacturer, see below), but the only difference is that an extra step is involved, which is after the installation is over, the floors need to be sanded and refinished, and stained in the same stain as the home owner would like. Also, home owners can choose to have the floors satin finished, or semi-gloss finish
Pre-finished hardwood floors:
Pre-finished hardwood floors, also called on-site finished hardwood floors, are hardwood floors that come already stained and varnished (home owners can choose between semi-gloss and satin finish) by the manufacturer. The main benefit for pre-finished hardwood floors is the time of installation is quicker, since the we skip the step of sanding and refinishing the installed floors.
