Choosing Engineered Hardwood Flooring in Mississauga
Not all engineered hardwood is built the same.
Plank construction, wear-layer thickness, core quality, width and installation system all matter when selecting a floor. The product should also suit the existing subfloor rather than being chosen based on colour alone

Wide Plank Engineered Hardwood
Wide plank engineered hardwood is particularly popular for open-concept main floors and larger living spaces because fewer board seams create a cleaner, more continuous appearance.
Engineered construction is well suited to wider plank formats because the layered core provides better dimensional stability than an equivalent-width solid hardwood board.

White Oak, Maple & Hickory Options
White oak remains a popular choice for engineered flooring because it works well with natural, light and medium stain colours and is available in many contemporary wide-plank collections.
Maple, red oak, hickory and other species are also available depending on the desired grain, hardness and appearance.
We recommend comparing more than colour when selecting a product. The wear layer, plywood core, milling quality and installation requirements can be just as important to the long-term performance of the floor.

Click, Glue-Down & Nail-Assist Installation
Engineered hardwood can be installed using several methods depending on the flooring product and existing subfloor.
Click engineered hardwood can be floated over an approved underlayment, glue-down installation is commonly used over properly prepared concrete, and nail or nail-and-glue assist methods can be used over suitable plywood or wood subfloors.
Choosing the correct installation method is an important part of selecting the right engineered hardwood for the property.

Why Engineered Hardwood Works Well in Mississauga Properties
Mississauga has a mix of detached suburban homes, townhouses and high-rise condominiums, which means the same flooring system does not work everywhere.
In a house with a suitable plywood subfloor, engineered hardwood can be mechanically fastened and supported with adhesive.
In a City Centre condo or another property built over concrete, the same type of flooring may instead be glued directly to a properly prepared slab or installed as an approved floating system.
That flexibility is one of engineered hardwood's biggest advantages.
It can be a strong choice for:
-
Main-floor renovations
-
Detached and semi-detached houses
-
Townhouses
-
Condominium units
-
Wide-plank flooring projects
-
Concrete subfloors
-
Suitable basement renovations
-
Offices and professional spaces

Engineered Hardwood Floor Installation Methods
The installation method should be chosen after considering both the engineered flooring product and the existing subfloor.
We commonly use three installation systems.

Floating Installation
Compatible click-lock engineered hardwood can be installed as a floating floor over an approved underlayment.
The planks connect to each other rather than being permanently fastened to the subfloor.
This can be useful for some condo and basement projects, but floating installation does not eliminate the need for preparation. The subfloor still needs to meet the flooring manufacturer's flatness requirements.

Glue-Down Installation
Glue-down installation bonds the flooring directly to a properly prepared concrete or other approved subfloor using hardwood flooring adhesive.
This is particularly relevant in Mississauga condos and other properties with concrete slabs.
The concrete needs to be sufficiently flat and suitable for the adhesive system. Low areas, high spots or other surface issues may need to be corrected before installation.
A properly completed glue-down installation produces a firm floor with very little vertical movement.

Nail - Glue Assist Installation
For Mississauga houses with suitable plywood subfloors, engineered hardwood can often be installed using mechanical fasteners together with adhesive.
Glue assist provides additional support and is particularly useful with wider planks.
Board dimensions, subfloor construction and the flooring manufacturer's specifications determine whether this method is appropriate.

Engineered Hardwood Flooring for Mississauga Homes, Condos & Basements
Engineered hardwood can work well across the wide variety of properties found in Mississauga, from detached homes and townhouses to high-rise condos and finished basements.
In established residential areas such as Lorne Park, Clarkson, Streetsville, Erin Mills and Meadowvale, renovation projects often involve plywood or other wood-based subfloors. Depending on the flooring product, engineered hardwood can be installed using nail-down or nail-and-glue assist methods after the existing floor and subfloor have been properly prepared.
Mississauga condos present different conditions. Many condominium units are built over concrete, making engineered hardwood a practical real-wood flooring option because compatible products can be glued directly to prepared concrete or floated over approved acoustic underlayment.
Condo buildings may also have requirements regarding sound ratings, underlayment, flooring approval, contractor documentation and working hours. These requirements should be reviewed before the flooring system is finalized. For condo-specific projects, visit our Condo Flooring Mississauga page.
Engineered hardwood may also be suitable for some finished basements. Its layered construction provides greater dimensional stability than solid hardwood, but concrete moisture conditions and manufacturer requirements should still be considered before installation.
In basements where moisture or potential water exposure is a greater concern, vinyl plank flooring may provide a more practical alternative.

What Our Customers Say About Us
Terri, Toronto
I highly recommend Parqueteam! I used them to replace water damaged flooring in a condo. Emil was AMAZING! He brought mutiple samples until I found one I liked (very patient!) and worked within a limited budget. He kept in constant communication and his team showed up on time, completed the job in two days and did an excellent install.
Dor, Vaughan
We had a water damage to our laminate in our condo unit. Parqueteam was referred by a friend who used them before. They supplied and installed a thick and high-quality vinyl flooring. I'm very satisfied with the job.
Tyler, Toronto
Emil worked with me to get the floor I wanted, was helpful in getting everything I required for my condo and they installed the floors flawlessly. They are beautiful and were awesome to work with. Highly recommend using them.

Engineered Hardwood Floor vs. Solid Hardwood, Laminate and Vinyl Floors
Engineered hardwood has a genuine wood surface, giving it the natural grain and appearance of hardwood while its layered construction provides improved dimensional stability.
Compared with solid hardwood, engineered hardwood offers more installation flexibility and is generally better suited to concrete subfloors. Solid hardwood, however, can typically be sanded and refinished more times over its lifespan.
Laminate flooring generally costs less and can provide excellent resistance to everyday scratches, but its surface is not genuine hardwood.
Vinyl plank flooring provides greater water resistance and can be a practical option for basements or other spaces where moisture is a larger concern.
The right flooring depends on the property, subfloor, budget, preferred appearance and long-term expectations.
