Stair Refinishing & Renovation Services in Bradford

Bradford staircase projects range from refinishing builder-installed oak stairs to converting carpeted staircases into hardwood and updating dated railings, posts and spindles.

Parqueteam Hardwood Flooring can restore suitable existing wood components or combine refinishing with selective replacement when a larger staircase transformation is required.

Full Staircase Refinishing

Existing hardwood stair treads, nosings, handrails and suitable wood components can be sanded back to clean wood and refinished in a new colour.

This can dramatically change builder-finished oak stairs that remain structurally sound but have a natural, orange, reddish or darker stain that no longer suits the surrounding hardwood flooring.

New Stair Steps Recapping in bradford

Stair Tread Recapping

When the existing stair surface is not suitable for sanding, new hardwood stair treads and risers can be installed over the staircase structure.

Recapping is particularly useful when converting carpeted or builder-grade stairs into a hardwood staircase or when the existing treads are too damaged to restore.

The new stair components can then be finished to coordinate with surrounding hardwood flooring.

Spindles and post replacement bradford

Spindle & Post Replacements

Older builder-style wood spindles, posts and railing components can be updated as part of a staircase renovation.

Depending on the design, existing handrails may be refinished while dated wood spindles are replaced with new wood or iron components.

This allows homeowners to modernize the staircase without necessarily replacing every structural element.

Our 3-Step Dustless Stair Refinishing Process

Staircase refinishing requires much more detailed sanding than working on an open hardwood floor.

Treads, nosings, handrails, edges and adjoining components are individually prepared using professional equipment and detailed hand work.

Step 1 site preparation

Step 1: Preparation & Site Protection

We begin by identifying which staircase components are suitable for refinishing and which may require repair, painting or replacement.

Nearby hardwood flooring, walls and finished surfaces are protected before work begins.

Loose components, exposed fasteners and damaged areas are also addressed where required.

step 2 dustless stair refinishing and staining

Step 2: Dustless Sanding & Staining

Existing finish and stain are removed using professional sanding equipment connected to dust-containment systems.

Detailed staircase areas are sanded separately where larger equipment cannot reach.

Once the wood is exposed, stain samples can be tested directly on the staircase so the final colour can be viewed beside the surrounding hardwood flooring before a decision is made.

step 3 finish and clean up

Step 3: Finishing & Cleanup

The prepared wood is stained where required and protected with professional-grade finish.

For two-tone staircases, painted risers, stringers and other selected components are completed as part of the overall design.

Final touch-ups are completed before the staircase is inspected and the work area is cleaned.

Updating Builder-Finished Staircases in Bradford Homes

Updating Builder-Finished Staircases in Bradford Homes

Bradford has a large number of newer detached homes where the staircase was already finished by the builder rather than added during a later renovation.

In Summerlyn Village, builder specifications for many detached models included natural-finish oak stairs, railings and oak pickets, while some models included broadloom on the staircase instead. That creates two common renovation paths in the same neighbourhood: refinishing existing builder oak or converting carpeted stairs into hardwood.

A natural builder finish may still be in good condition while no longer matching newer hardwood flooring, cabinetry or interior finishes.

In these cases, the existing oak stair treads and handrails can often be sanded back to clean wood and restained in a lighter, darker or more contemporary colour.

Other Bradford homes may have carpet over plywood or another stair material that cannot be professionally refinished. Hardwood recapping can create a new wood surface without rebuilding the entire staircase.

Two-tone staircase designs can also update the appearance significantly. Hardwood stair treads and handrails can be stained while risers and stringers are painted, and dated wood spindles can be replaced with iron or updated wood components.

When hardwood flooring is also being changed, we can test the staircase stain with the new floor in mind so both parts of the renovation feel connected.
