When existing stair treads are unsuitable for sanding, new hardwood stair treads and risers can be installed over the existing staircase structure.
Recapping can completely change the appearance of an older staircase and is often used when new hardwood flooring has been installed elsewhere in the home.
Spindle & Post Replacements
A staircase renovation can also include replacing outdated wood spindles, posts and other selected components.
Iron or painted spindles can often be incorporated into the new design, while suitable handrails and other wood components may be refinished rather than replaced.
Our 3-Step Dustless Stair Refinishing Process
Refinishing a staircase requires more detailed hand work than sanding an open hardwood flooring area. Our process combines professional sanding equipment with careful preparation around stair edges, nosings, railings and adjoining surfaces.
Step 1: Preparation & Site Protection
We review the staircase condition and determine which components can be refinished and which may require repair, painting or replacement.
Nearby flooring, walls and other finished surfaces are protected before sanding begins.
Step 2: Dustless Sanding & Staining
The old finish and stain are removed from the wood using dust-containment sanding equipment along with detailed sanding around corners and shaped staircase components.
Once the bare wood is exposed, stain samples can be tested directly on the staircase so the new colour can be coordinated with the home's hardwood flooring, décor or planned renovation.
Step 3: Finishing & Cleanup
The selected finish is applied after the stain has properly dried.
Any included painting, touch-ups and finishing details are completed before the staircase is inspected and the work area is cleaned.
For two-tone staircase renovations, stained wood treads and handrails can be combined with painted risers and stringers.

Stair Refinishing for Vaughan Homes
Staircases in Vaughan homes vary considerably depending on the age and style of the property.
Many detached homes in Woodbridge and Maple have traditional oak staircases finished in darker or warmer stain colours. Even when the appearance has become dated, the underlying wood may still be in excellent condition and suitable for refinishing.
In newer homes throughout Vellore Village, Patterson and other Vaughan neighbourhoods, staircase renovations are often completed alongside hardwood flooring upgrades.
