However, consumers have plenty of ways to gain knowledge, and prepare themselves for upcoming home projects, after all, home improvement projects require some preparation, specially when it comes to hardwood floors.
Before installing your new hardwood floors there are few things to keep in mind that will needed to be done before even starting to put the first nail in the first board.

  • Furniture: If you have a lot of furniture at the install place, it is recommended to move them away as much as possible. If there are free areas, such as tiled areas, customers can easy keep their furniture there.
  • Time required for project finish: Surprises happen, and no one likes them. So better be prepared just in case. Always ask installer for how long it would take, but always assume that unexpected delays can happen, so be prepared.
  • Type of wood and color: once the floor is installed, there is no way back! Better take your time and think carefully about the type of wood you would like and the color that suits your needs.
  • Temperature: Humidity and wood don’t like each other. Make sure the temperature at the project is good for wood floor laying! Read manufacture requirements!

That is it; we are ready now to install brand new hardwood flooring! Good luck!

Difference Between Engineered Hardwood Flooring and Solid Hardwood Flooring

Technically, both terms apply to most flooring, but the difference is considerable. Hardwood usually implies a plank about 3/4" think with a tongue and groove on the sides and ends. It will need refinishing when the hardwood flooring installation is complete, which can be the most difficult and time consuming part

of the entire job. It also requires that each plank be nailed to the subfloor, usually with a special nailer. The nailers can be either strictly a manual operation or air assisted; the air assist, or pneumatic type is preferable.

Either type are usually available for rent at home improvement stores; a good thing as the nailers are quite expensive to purchase

Laminate, or engineered, flooring is a built up composite to form planks with a specialty tongue and groove assembly also on the sides and ends of each plank. Laminate flooring is much cheaper to purchase and the installation of the flooring is much easier with no refinishing of the installed product. It is not normally refinishable; damaged pieces must be replaced entirely, and they are not as durable as the regular hardwood floor. A floor installed with engineered hardwood flooring is not amenable to patterns as each planks must be installed just like all the other planks. See the picture for a patterned hardwood floor; this type of work is not possible with an engineered hardwood floor installation.

As a result, it is difficult to decide which one will  work best  for you. Perhaps, the best strategy would be to seek a consultation form the professional wooden flooring installers and get knowledgeable  answers. However, before you start attacking  the experts, check some types of wooden floor finishes in order to organize your list of questions with some characteristics  of different types of wood floor finishes.

Varnish is a transparent, protective finish coat applied to the wooden types of floors at the end of installation process. It has no color or any pigment, so it will preserve the original color of your wooden floors. Typically, varnish is glossy; however, by adding other special chemical ingredients, you can obtain satin or semi-glossy look. Varnish, as a floor finish consists of ( but not limited to) water, oil or acrylic-based components.

Wood stain is a finish used for wooden floors for color and protection. Wood stains consist of either color pigments or dyes. Wood stains are not getting deeply into wood pores and could be easily removed, if necessary. If you wish to change the color of your originally chosen wooden flooring material, wood stains would be a great choice. Similar to varnish, wood stains could be oil or water based. Notice, however, that with the numerous brands and floor finishes types currently available, wood stains could poses variety of other chemical ingredients.

Finally, keep in mind that there are myriads of other floor finishes existing in the  flooring installation market. Please refer to the article Types of Wood Floor Finish: Choose Wisely for more information in regards to other floor finishes types.

High traffic areas of your  might fade over time if not protected by rag(s) made from the natural (breathable) material, so no moisture is being concentrated. Moreover, kid’s  playing area must be protected as well in order to prevent any scratches and other damages caused by sharp edges of toys and furniture.
