As a result, it is difficult to decide which one will  work best  for you. Varnish is a transparent, protective finish coat applied to the wooden types of floors at the end of installation process. It has no color or any pigment, so it will preserve the original color of your wooden floors. Typically, varnish is glossy; however, by adding other special chemical ingredients, you can obtain satin or semi-glossy look. Varnish, as a floor finish consists of ( but not limited to) water, oil or acrylic-based components.

Wood stain is a finish used for wooden floors for color and protection. Wood stains consist of either color pigments or dyes. Wood stains are not getting deeply into wood pores and could be easily removed, if necessary. If you wish to change the color of your originally chosen wooden flooring material, wood stains would be a great choice. Similar to varnish, wood stains could be oil or water based. Notice, however, that with the numerous brands and floor finishes types currently available, wood stains could poses variety of other chemical ingredients.
